Revered as guardians of the mariachi legacy, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán presents a festive repertoire of rhythms, dance and vocals for an exciting evening of pageantry and musical virtuosity. Founded in 1897, the quintessential kings of Mexican folk music earned their reputation as “el mejor mariachi del mundo” (the best mariachi group in the world) by virtue of their commitment to tradition and emphasis on superior musicianship and singing ability. This concert opens with San Diego’s own Mariachi favorites, Mariachi Champaña Nevin, who will perform the Pasión Mexicana Concerto for Mariachi and Orchestra, the world's first and only full-length concerto for mariachi and orchestra!

Selections by Mariachi Vargas and the San Diego Symphony Orchestra will include Huapangos de Rubén Fuentes, México Romántico, Besame Mucho, Las voces de Fuentes, La Bikina, El Pasto, José Alfredo y sus Canciones #1 and Que Bonita es mi Tierra.
