A Jacobs Masterworks Concert

David Danzmayr, conductor
George Li, piano

BACEWICZ: Overture
CHOPIN: Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11
DVOŘÁK: Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88

In his youth, Frédéric Chopin left us a final, brilliant experiment in concerto form to which he would never return, performed on this concert by rising young American pianist George Li. Critics attacked Antonín Dvoŕák’s Eighth Symphony for its unusual structure, but audiences loved it from the beginning, and still do. And Poland’s Grazyna Bacewicz dared to write a hopeful Overture in Warsaw in the darkest days of WWII.
