TCHAIKOVSKY: Overture 1812 (Ouverture solennelle), Op. 49 (in segments)
TCHAIKOVSKY: excerpts from Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy

Melodies. Cannons. Fireworks. Lots of people recognize the famous 1812 Overture, but few know the story behind it. What inspired Tchaikovsky to write this piece? With the help of actors from San Diego Junior Theatre, we’ll look at the creative process, take this piece apart and put it back together to discover how this Russian composer built a masterpiece for all time.

Adult tickets (age 13 and up) are $25; for all children ages 3 to 12 tickets are $10. Children ages two years and younger may attend for free, but must sit in an adult's lap.

Pre-concert activities begin at 1:00 p.m. in the lobbies. Try your hand at playing an instrument in the Instrument Discovery Zone, meet one of the San Diego Symphony's musicians and listen to a young ensemble perform! The Instrument Discovery Zone is generously provided by Bertrand’s Music.

Programs, artists and ticket prices are subject to change.
