FLESH AND THE DEVIL (1926)
A Fox Theatre Film Series Screening*
Russ Peck, organ
A beautiful, married countess becomes involved with two young German soldiers (and boyhood pals), leading to romantic and tragic consequences. Greta Garbo was one of MGM’s most shining stars of the late Silent Era, and this romantic melodrama both lifted her to superstardom and initiated her torrid off-screen romance with co-star John Gilbert. A true dramatic classic of the Silent Era, selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in 2006.
*San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program.
