AN EVENING WITH PAT METHENY*
With Antonio Sánchez, Linda Oh and Gwilym Simcock
A Jazz @ The Jacobs Special Concert
Four decades into a career at the leading edge of progressive and contemporary jazz, Pat Metheny has virtually redefined the sound of modern jazz guitar. An early proponent of twelve-string guitar, electric guitar and synthesizer in jazz, Metheny was recently named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master for “bringing fresh sonic potential” to jazz guitar “while offering a deep reservoir of improvisational insight and musicality.” He will be joined on this special concert evening by his renowned collaborators drummer Antonio Sánchez, bassist Linda Oh and pianist Gwilym Simcock.
The San Diego Union-Tribune has published a story celebrating three guitar greats who, in a rare convergence, are about to offer concerts in San Diego this month: Bill Frisell, John Scofield and, of course, Pat Metheny.
